After thinking about using a new domain to promote my custom Wordpress theme design services, I finally decided to stick with Rubiqube and go with a blog redesign. I know… I did a redesign just two months ago and this is actually my third Wordpress theme since I started this blog. I guess that’s just me: when it comes to my own blog design, I never get too attached to a theme.
Here’s what I’m hoping to achieve with this redesign:
- update some of the functionality: less scroll, more options
- create a tree like structure for static pages, but also for the blog archive
- get rid of some of those links in my sidebar and just focus on user experience links
- highlight my portfolio and services, as well as the free Wordpres themes I will develop
- last but not least: update the design and take the personal branding (even) more seriously
Ok, stop screaming! I’ll show you some mockups already.
The concept will be similar to the current one, but with a two column layout instead of a three column layout …

… making it very easy for my users to gimme some lovin’:

… and updating the design in just the right places:

I’ll get started on the actual Wordpress theme tomorrow and I hope to be finish the main tempaltes in a couple of days. I know I saod work on the new site will take weeks, but that doesn’t work. I have to make this happen yesterday! What was I thinking?

I like the way the new design is going. The header is similar to what you have now, similar colors. It looks nice and clean, and keeping the RSS area above the fold is a good idea. Not only that, it seems like you are making a bit more noticable than what it is currently.
I wouldn’t worry about redesigning. It really hasn’t been too frequent. And quite frankly, I think most designers are never truly happy with their own sites/blogs.
Good luck with the design!
Exquisite. Really sweet design. One thing tho… forget the lite gradient from the .current from the tab navigation, doesn’t fit in. Really love the rest. Congrats, hope to see it soon.
hello Adrian, the color looks cool. by the way i love to see the result. I am going to redesign my site too. Just wanna ask you, where do you host this site?
Thanks, guys! Aj, Rubiqube is hosted at Media Temple.
Looking great Adrian! Can’t wait to see it live. I like the way the blog is now, but this redesign will definitely give it some more character and a bit more color with the nice blue background in the content body.
Keep up the great work!
Superb. You didn’t elimitate the gradient from the current button as i suggested. I think that gradient is kinda much. Anyway the new blog looks great. Congrats and all the best.
Squeaky clean as expected Adrian. I especially like the comments design.
You’re doing a great job. Blog design looks very nice indeed
I’m starting to see the result here. It’s nice. I like the header!
By the way, you look different on your new gravatar.
