If Web 1.0 was about reading and Web 2.0 is about writing, then surely the next trend on the web (call it Web 2.1) will be about aggregating the content of Web 2.0. I’m not only talking about aggregating as in RSS. I’m talking about aggregating as in bringing things (friends, jobs, designs, news) together, reorganizing, creating new and more efficient ways to access content quickly. So without further ado, here are some examples:
- ShareThis - social bookmarking
- Plaxo - social networking
- Job Pile - job boards
- BuzzFeed - all kinds of news
- Web Developer’s Handbook - web developer tools and resources
- Best Web Gallery - great design
- Most Sliced - XHTML / CSS service providers
- Trailer Flick - movie trailers
- Yongfook - lifestream
- There are even aggregators aggregating aggregators?!?
Of course there are many more examples and we’ll probably see more and more aggregators as web content grows. Who’s building these beasts? Web designers, developers, even bloggers. Why? Because they can save a lot of time, because they’re so damn easy to build and because sometimes the “originals” suck.
I also have a couple of website ideas in mind. I’ll be sure to keep you posted. Until then, here’s an interesting read for those of you who are into aggregating content.
